PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) is considered by conventional medicine as an anxiety disorder caused by events that have been very stressful, frightening or distressing - in other words, traumatic. Trauma is not necessarily always what we often perceive it to be; trauma can be small events that have affected us greatly or ongoing situations which have caused us to dissociate to avoid the pain. Nightmares, insomnia, flashbacks and feelings of isolation, irritability, anger and guilt are commonly associated with trauma and PTSD following traumatic events and can have a significant impact on our day to day lives.
Mentally, we may also feel exhausted and not quite 'here', and physically we may feel that we no longer have the energy or inclination to do the things that we once enjoyed. Sometimes there is pain in our bodies and often conventional medicine cannot find a cause; this can also make us more fatigued, despondent and anxious. Increased isolation means that we often have fewer people to talk to or to socialise with, and sometimes when there are others to connect with, often we find it very stressful or triggering to be in company.
Approaches to trauma and PTSD using holistic methods can be quite different from the treatments of conventional medicine. My approach is often more spiritual in nature - I consider soul loss to be a result of trauma and the 'lost' soul essence a cause of PTSD. There is an element of energetic fracturing or fragmenting that occurs during a traumatic experience, with parts of ourselves being shaken from us. It is my role as the shamanic healer to return these back to you from the spiritual realm where they reside in order to protect ourselves. Many therapies can help support our emotional self compassion, reconnecting with our physical bodies and restoration of our own personal power which is often taken from us during times of trauma.
The level of my practice is Trauma Enhanced in the NHS Scotland Knowledge and Skills Framework, treating clients who have experienced varying degrees of trauma, providing healing and support.
For support sessions for trauma and PTSD I request an initial commitment to a minimum of 6 sessions.
One to one support plans provide a dedicated number of 90 minute sessions necessary for the holistic support required for the process of your recovery. The sessions create a safe space where you are listened to with empathy and compassion and without judgement, and emotionally supported throughout.
The initial 6 week support plans consist of an initial first visit and consultation followed by 5 x 90 min weekly sessions, which will include holistic counsel and the appropriate treatment or therapy. If you would like to discuss which plan may be the most suitable for you, or any aspect of the plans, a free 15 minute telephone consultation is available.
