Andrea is the face behind Flourish; Shamanka, alternative medicine practitioner, therapeutic bodyworker and holistic horticulturist, The HortiHealer™.
She has been working professionally in the fields of complementary, alternative and plant medicine, holistic and spiritual healing and therapeutic horticulture for 20 years, alongside her practices of cartomancy and dowsing from lifelong claircognizance. She has been applying these principles and practices to support her own health and wellness for over 30 years.
Before her professional practice in holistic medicine, Andrea spent 11 years in a previous career in Analytical Chemistry and Quality Management within the medical and pharmaceutical field. She felt the pharmaceutical industry's approach to health and medicine was very limited and that it also actively discouraged autonomy and ownership of individual health. Becoming disillusioned with her work in this field, in 2000 she cleared the way for a new path to allow her return to her purpose, and began working with a large complementary health centre in Glasgow as an Assistant Clinic Manager.
The HortiHealer™ - Nurturing Our Nature
With a fascination and deep love for the green world, Andrea developed her own private therapeutic practice initially through the plant world and the study of environment, horticulture and landscape design. She has designed and developed gardens and landscapes for private and corporate clients and spent some time in landscape architecture, where she found she wanted to spend less time in AutoCAD landscape design and more time interacting with plants and people, and began working as a Lecturer in Horticulture in further education. She supported a variety of students of all ages, backgrounds and abilities, with many students experiencing previous educational exclusion due to learning challenges or experiences in the criminal justice system due to adverse circumstances. Student engagement was minimal when teaching in a classroom but when venturing outside in the natural environment, her students' participation was more enthusiastic and they developed a strong sense of working together.
Her work with community organisations includes developing social and therapeutic horticulture projects, encouraging and supporting the profound positive effects that tending plants have on health and well-being, helping us to reconnect with our need to nurture even if we have received very little nurturing from others or experience of doing this for ourselves. Tending and communing with plants is one of the supportive therapies Andrea uses for her own well-being. She is a keen gardener and applies holistic, organic and biodynamic principles, rooted in the ecological, ethical, social and spiritual respect for the land. Andrea harvests the organic plants she grows in her own green space for the products she crafts, including remedies, smudges, oils, balms, waters and elixirs.
Andrea's therapeutic work in horticulture led to her study, qualification and professional and experiential knowledge in holistic medicine and the healing arts including bodywork, clinical reflexology, acupressure and energetic and vibrational therapies. She supports clients in their own therapeutic development using traditional medicine and provides holistic counsel, empathetic support and healing practices for transformational change. Andrea works with a wide range of private clients in one to one sessions and supports others in developing their own healing skills in her workshops and courses. including her Reiki training courses and Workplace Wellbeing Programs and provides support and supervision for student therapists and practitioners in training. As a specifically trained Animal Reiki Practitioner, she also shares energy medicine with a wide range of animals - from congested Highland cows to injured crows - including her own companion animals.
As a messenger and intermediary between the human and the spirit worlds, this became fully integrated with her holistic medicine and healing practice when she began her professional Shamanic Practitioner training with Fotoula Adrimi, Shamanic Teacher and Director of The Isis School of Holistic Health who studied under internationally renowned Shamanic Teacher and author Sandra Ingerman.
With a long family history of Celtic and Norse-Gael ancestry, the ancient discipline of faith healing has always been an integral part of both Andrea's ancestry and in her own life. Her 4 year long professional training in shamanism served as Spirit's ceremonial initiation and blessing of her as Earth Worker and Shamanka. She has spent time training in aspects of Tibetan shamanism with Nepalese Jhākri, Bhola Bastola and while her spiritual healing approaches have a strong foundation in her own traditions, they are also influenced by many different cultures including Native American, Toltec and Taoist practices.
Andrea's work is a vocation, her passion and her purpose. Her work is an integral part of her life, an ever evolving personal and professional developmental process that ensures she continues to provide the best possible service for her clients.
